Stacey-Ann Nelson-Hamilton
Intern

Dr. Stacey-Ann Nelson-Hamilton is a community volunteer health educator in Jamaica and held the position of clinical team lead and injectable nurse at Family Medicine Womack Medical Center, Fort Liberty, North Carolina. Dr. Nelson-Hamilton holds a doctorate degree in health science from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a Master of Science in nursing, with a concentration in nursing leadership and administration, from Excelsior University, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Excelsior University, and an undergraduate degree in business and management from Excelsior University. Currently, she is pursuing an MPH from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She has 22 years of experience in management.

Before her work in the Federal government, she worked as a professional nurse for a North Carolina state correctional facility, where she became an instrumental part of the team and focused on addressing and identifying the mental health needs of patients. She helped advance the process of mental health care for new and existing patients, shortening the evaluation wait time and providing a more effective meeting process with interdisciplinary health professionals. Her most valued accomplishment is the Fort Liberty Commanders’ Coin for Nursing Excellence, awarded in February 2019. She has enjoyed working as a mental health injectable nurse and leading the infection control team.

However, she is most pleased with her work as a mentor to new nurses, ensuring an environment based on care and trust. This has given nurses and patients a sense of community. She looks forward to achieving her career goal of working either for the World Health Organization or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, teaching an online nursing course, and/or training nursing assistants in rural areas of developing countries.
