Devin Hursey, MA, MPH is an advocate for the health and human rights of people living with HIV as well as a public health advocate, from Kansas City Missouri. Hursey has recently obtained dual master’s degrees in Public Health and strategic communications at the University of Missouri Columbia, May of 2023. Hursey is a founding Board member of Blaqout KC, but now works to develop Blaqout’s policy and advocacy program.
His work includes organizing the Kansas City Black Queer Leadership Collective, and staffing various other community coalitions through Blaqout. Hursey was honored as a thought leader in public health in 2023. In 2019, Hursey was recognized as one of the 40 under 40 in public health by de Beaumont. As a member of the Missouri HIV Justice Coalition in 2021, Hursey successfully advocated for the modernization of Missouri’s harmful HIV criminalization statute, that once threatened people living with HIV for up to 30 and a half years. Also a former steering committee of the US People Living with HIV Caucus, and former member of the CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV.
