Amber Nigam comes from Bareilly in India. He is the co-founder and CEO of basys.ai, an award-winning digital healthcare startup. He brings a diverse range of experience (aggregate of more than 10 years) in domains like entrepreneurship, data science, health-tech, and ed-tech. Amber draws his entrepreneurial motivation from his dad, who was a founder of a pharmaceutical company himself. He formerly founded an ed-tech startup, kydots.ai, where he led tech and operations teams as the co-founder and CTO of the company. He is also an Associate Director at the largest entrepreneurship club in Harvard (Harvard GSAS Business Club), where he is responsible for helping founders in strategy and pitching (the ideas to the investors) across the Harvard ecosystem. Amber is currently pursuing MS in Health Data Science from Harvard University while he began his career with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. His interests and work are grounded in applied data science. For instance, he has instructed the course “Collaborative Data Science for Healthcare” at MIT.

Amber has also been the first inventor of three patents and his work has been published at some of the top AI conferences like NeurIPS and ACL and by publishers like Springer and Lancet. Amber and his co-founder Jie Sun, with whom he co-founded basys.ai and has been working for more than two years, have won the MIT 100K Accelerate competition, received several grants from Harvard and MIT, and have been invited by Norrsken Impact Foundation for their startup incubation program. Harvard recently published about their journey while founding this company being students. He has led several impactful initiatives at the intersection of technology and healthcare. For instance, he led a critical project with the United Nations Population Fund and MIT on addressing the sexual and reproductive health needs of the youth migrants in central Asia and Africa. Their work was published in The Lancet Planetary Health.

Amber has also led teams at MIT, BIDMC, Harvard, and Adobe to publish work on COVID-19 related misinformation in special issues on Infodemiology for the joint call for papers by WHO. Amber has been invited for speaking at several industry events on topics such as healthcare and artificial intelligence. He has also been a part of startup networks in Boston and Bangalore. He has led his startups through stints at Harvard Innovation Lab’s Build It, MIT Sandbox, YC Startup School, and Entrepreneur First. He is motivated about working on ideas that bring about positive change in society and scalable technical solutions. To that end, he has been advising social impact organizations (in women’s safety and health) on their strategy and technology.
