Dr. Shir Ginzburg (she/her/hers) is an assistant professor of public health at MCPHS in Boston, Massachusetts. She has a PhD in medical anthropology from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Dr. Ginzburg studies diabetes, depression, and food insecurity syndemics in Puerto Rico, and particularly the effect of Puerto Rico’s political status as a United Status territory on healthcare decision-making and health outcomes. She also studies environmental health and environmental justice among underserved communities, particularly the interactions of air pollution and health disparities on health outcomes.
Dr. Ginzburg also coordinates the MPH Program’s Practice Experience/Internship Program and has years of community health collaborations. Dr. Ginzburg has published in a variety of journals, such as Transcultural Psychiatry, Research for All, Journal of Public Health, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly. She utilizes qualitative and quantitative research, and practices Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). She also has an interest in the intersections of religion and health.
