Dr. Stacey Griner, PhD, MPH, RDH (she/her) is a public health researcher and Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. She is a highly collaborative, community-engaged implementation scientist whose work focuses on improving access to care and promoting sexual and reproductive health equity across the life course. In addition to her primary research focus on sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening, prevention, and treatment through innovative methods, Dr. Griner practiced as a dental hygienist prior to transitioning to academia. Informed by her previous clinical experience, her recent work is uniquely positioned at the intersection of oral health and STIs, which includes the prevention of oral and oropharyngeal cancers through implementation of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination policies and guidelines in community dental clinics as well as training the oral health workforce to identify manifestations of STIs and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). To recognize her commitment to improving sexual health equity and access to STI screening, she was awarded the American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association (ASTDA) Young Investigator Award in 2022. Dr. Griner has co-authored several position statements for the ASTDA, currently serves as an editorial board member for the Sexually Transmitted Diseases journal, and her publications regarding novel screening methods for STIs are widely cited. She is committed to service in public health and currently serves as a governing councilor for the Sexual and Reproductive Health Section of the American Public Health Association, along with her support of state and local advocacy in community organizations. Dr. Griner strives to instill transparency, intentionality, respect, equity, and empathy in the future public health professionals and researchers she mentors through her role as Director of the Public Health Leadership and Maternal and Child Health MPH programs. She is an effective and engaging instructor for core courses in both of these programs, and her teaching philosophy draws from the social and structural determinants of health to encourage students to examine health inequities and their ultimate causes from multiple levels. Dr. Griner’s training includes a BS in Dental Hygiene from St. Petersburg College, an MPH from the University of Florida, and a PhD in Public Health from the University of South Florida.
