Chief, Section of Podiatric Surgery, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital
Robert Toomey works in an underserved socio-economic hospital, and co-developed the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center Foot and Ankle Excellence Center. He advocated for the underserved and uninsured, furthering health equity within the local community outside of Washington, D.C.
Additionally at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, Dr. Toomey created the first total ankle arthroplasty (ankle replacement) delineation of privilege and standards at the hospital. As Section Chief of Podiatric Surgery at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, he developed and implemented the first Podiatric Surgery call schedule at the hospital, and ensured better service for the diabetic population through availability in the emergency department and through local community education on the diabetic foot.
