Dr. Audrey Harkness is a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Miami, Director of the Research Engagement and Public Health (REACH) Equity team, and Director of the Equitable Implementation Science Core for the Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health (CHARM). She has an extensive history and ongoing commitment to innovative public health research and practice to advance equitable health outcomes and healthcare access. Her program is largely focused on using behavioral and implementation science to improve the reach of evidence-based HIV and mental health interventions to populations experiences disparities. With >85 peer reviewed publications and multiple PI and Co-I NIH grants in these areas, she is an expert in implementation science and HIV. Dr. Harkness’ current NIH-funded R01 seeks to study and scale up locally developed adjunctive interventions and implementation strategies to improve the reach of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and mental health/substance use treatment to Latino men who have sex with men in Miami FL, Orlando FL, and San Juan PR via a collaborative group of community implementers and researchers called SOMOS Alianza formed through a prior grant. In addition to Dr. Harkness’ personal accomplishments in public health, she is a dedicated mentor and educator. She has mentored >25 trainees who are committed to innovative and equitable public health, supporting with public health research (e.g., publications, theses, dissertations, grants), community partnership building, and professional development.
