Dr. Hannah Javidi

Assistant Professor, Psychology, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NC A&T)

Dr. Hannah Javidi is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NC A&T) who specializes in adolescent sexual health research and education. Since 2018, she has conducted rigorous behavioral research promoting healthy sexual beliefs and behaviors among teens and young adults, with a focus on populations underserved by traditional sex education (e.g., rural youth, LGBTQ+ teens). She completed her PhD in Applied Social and Community Psychology at NC State University and advanced her research through a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington.

Dr. Javidi’s research centers on two main areas: 1) understanding and promoting sexual consent and communication, and 2) using community-engaged methods to design, implement, and evaluate innovative interventions to improve adolescent sexual health. She developed PACT (Promoting Affirmative Consent among Teens), a brief digital education program that improved adolescents’ consent knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy in its first trial with over 800 participants. With support from an NIH K99/R00 award, she is adapting PACT to include condom negotiation skills and tailor content to meet the needs of GBQ+ teen boys.

Dr. Javidi has published 25 peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter, and her work has been recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 List (2025, Healthcare category). Her ultimate goal is to translate research into real-world impact by expanding access to evidence-based, empowering, sex-positive, and developmentally-appropriate sex education. She hopes to contribute to a future that is transformative, equitable, and rooted in community care.

At NC A&T, Dr. Javidi is the instructor for the undergraduate Psychological Statistics course, the advisor of the Psychology Research Club, and an affiliate of the Center of Excellence for Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research.
