Paul A. D’Avanzo is a behavioral health scientist with more than a decade of HIV/STI research experience. Dr. D’Avanzo was an NIH T-32 Postdoctoral Fellow in the Behavioral Sciences in HIV Infection training program at Columbia University’s HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies. He was also a 2024 American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association (ASTDA) Research Fellow where he led an investigation of patient and provider factors associated with uptake and use of doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy PEP) for bacterial sexually transmitted infection prevention. Previously, Paul was a project director for Project 18, a prospective cohort study of emerging adult sexual minority men in New York City conducted at New York University’s Center for Health, Identity, Behavior, and Prevention Studies (CHIBPS). Paul received his PhD in Social and Behavioral Health Sciences from Temple University’s College of Public Health, and Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a senior associate editor of Annals of LGBTQ Public and Popuation Health.
