Paul A. D’Avanzo, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Behavior, Society and Policy at the Rutgers School of Public Health. He is also a research affiliate at the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior and Prevention Studies. A behavioral scientist training, D’Avanzo’s primary research focus is HIV and STI treatment and prevention, particularly the use of behavioral theory to enhance patient-provider communication. D’Avanzo is a training and research consultant for the Northeast and Caribbean AIDS Education and Training Center (NECA AETC) and a senior associate editor for the journal Annals of LGBTQ Public and Population Health. He received his Ph.D. in Social and Behavioral Health Sciences from Temple University’s Barnett College of Public Health and completed his postdoctoral training at Columbia University’s HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies.
