Dr. Yasir Al-Khalili is an associate professor in the Department of Neurology at Georgetown University. Dr. Al-Khalili earned his medical degree at St. George’s University with honors in neuroscience research and then completed his residency and fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital, where he served as the chief resident (education). While on faculty, he pursued an Executive Master of Science in Medical Education at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on educational leadership. He is currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management and Leadership, focusing on global health while pursuing a graduate certificate in Public Policy at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.He is a neurologist specializing in neuromuscular disease. He is board-certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology, electrodiagnostic, and neuromuscular medicine. Dr. Al-Khalili is a three-time recipient of the Richmond Magazine Top Docs award. His other accolades include being selected as Emerging Leader by the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Neurology’s A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award for excellence in neurology education, of which he is a two-time recipient and Drexel University College of Medicine’s Golden Apple Teaching Award. He serves the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine as a member of different committees including Education Committee and Advocacy Committee. Dr. Al-Khalili is unwavering in his commitment to medical education. He passionately educates his students, residents, patients, and the community. In addition to mentoring his trainees, he actively educates young students in public schools about stroke symptoms and necessary actions. Furthermore, he makes regular visits to Capitol Hill to enlighten legislators about the challenges faced by neurology patients and to advocate for necessary bills. His dedication to education extends beyond the United States, as he virtually instructs neurology trainees at the University in Zambia on neurology and neuromuscular medicine.
